My shower is leaking and the floor underneith it is rotting. I need to fix it. I only want to fix up the shower as I like the rest of the bathroom and I don't think I can afford to renovate it. Aproxamatly how much (Australian) do you think I am looking at?

I have no clue regarding your costs based on location; but it seems a minor issue in my opinion; given the damage already. Without any detail at all about the age; or how the surrounding walls are finished; the first thing I'd check would be the walls and any areas of leaking just above any drain level...I'd probably want to check the inlet plumbing as well to determine if it's leaking and flowing to the drain area; via gravity; THEN I'd suspect that a new shower pan would help.

Beyond that; given the damage; it sounds like you'll probably want to replace flooring under the pan; and check the condition of the walls surrounding it.

If you think you can do all of that, and re-set the plumbing; then certainly you might save some dollars.

Kinda depends on where it is leaking. If it is the actual shower head, it may just be leaking right behind the wall where the supply hooks onto the shower head. Not hard to fix and fairly cheap. If the pipe is leaking exiting the tub, that's a little more pricey. Easiest way to figure out which it is is to shut the drain on the tub and run the water. If it leaks then, it's the supply line, if not, then it's the drain. Take some cooperation from your neighbor, but it'll save whom ever is repairing it from searching out the source of the leak = saving you money.

If your talking about a leaky shower and nothing else, sans shower pan, then a few cents and look the other way to anything else. This would include a washer for the faucet. But, the service fee for coming out $48.00 U.S.

It's nearly impossible to say without seeing it. My recommendation is to call local contractors and have them come in to give you a WRITTEN quote. Check your local phone directory for bathroom specialists and handymen. Call at least three and ask for references--then call the references and, better still, go see the work.

Ask questions on how they plan to do the repair and get written detailed descriptions of the extent of the work they plan to do.

Happy shopping!
