I have a laptop, its an older model though. I know it works fine, but i don't know how to connect to the internet? Do I need to buy anything? There is another computer in the house, it's not wireless though. Whenever I try to set it up it says the modem has no dial tone? Am I supposed to enter my phone number or something? Help!!! Am I supposed to buy something in order to get internet?

Assuming you already have internet service...sounds like you have dialup. If you dont have dialup, then you shouldnt be trying to use a dialup connection. More specifics are needed as in..are you using broadband or dialup, if its broadband...is there a router or wireless setup. If it is dialup, make sure there is a phone line ran to the laptop. The error 680 (no dial tone) means the modem does not detect a dial tone. That will only happen if there is truly no dial tone and to determine that...hook a telephone up to that jack and if the phone gets a dial tone, its your computers dialup modem having problems. If the phone does not get a dial tone, call your phone service provider.

It is a modem (not modum) and is a gadget to help you connect the PC with the telephone line. Many computers are now coming with built-in modems. I strongly suggest that you take help from a technically sound person.
