There can be pain when the hymen breaks upon penatration. There can also be some blood. I did not bleed the first time but there was a whole lot of pain, enough so that we didn't even finish what we started and had to wait for another day.
The hymen is the thin membrane that sometimes covers the opening to the vagina if you're a virgin. I say "sometimes" because, even if you haven't had sex, the hymen can do a bit of a disappearing act due to an overzealous workout at the gym, horseback riding, tampons, and even passionate "heavy petting" with your boyfriend. (It's not an impenetrable barrier, anyway, as it has holes to allow menstrual blood to escape.)
For some, the first few times make you feel sore, as it's been an unused muscle or even hurt, if you aren't properly lubericated, or if the guy is in a hurry, doesn't arouse you and your body isn't ready.
Relaxing, foreplay, being fully aroused or better yet, you having an orgasm FIRST or using a lubricant like KY-Jelly or Astro-Glide can help.

I'm not an expert but for me personally, it didn't hurt at all. The only uncomfortable part was the beginning, getting used to his size. After that I was fine.
But every woman is different and I'm sorry I can't be of more help.
(Also, I would assume that if you use tampons it wouldn't hurt as much because your hymen may already be broken)

I was 19 when I lost mine, and it didn't hurt at all, but I did feel a little strange ... I think that lubricant and lots of foreplay are a very good idea.

hi
as long as you take your time plenty of foreplay and maybe some extra lubricant and try to relax all should be fine and from experience when i lost mine it didn't hurt and practice makes perfect after the first time it will only get better.
good luck
