Hi, i recently found my zippo lighter lying around. I tried to light it, and nothing. So i went out, bought a new flint, wick, and fluid, all with the Zippo name on it. I changed the wick, changed the flint, and put new fluid in it. Occasionally it will light with ease the first time, but more than often, it will take 10-20 strikes for it to catch. Can someone help me on why this is? And should i just send it in for repairs instead of worrying about it? And on normal, will a Zippo lighter light with just one strike? Or does it take a few times in general?

Thanks to whoever can shed some light on this subject!

Yes the wick is the correct length, and the rest of it thats inside is wrapped around the cotten. And i keep it filled with fluid all the time.

It may just be the new wick burning in, but Zippos can "vapor lock"...trying to explain, you open it and strike it-you hear a swoosh and a flame but it doesn't light. Try opening the lighter and swish it up to clear the gases from the lid, then try your strike. Determined lung-cancer getters like myself have a little "flick" we automatically do before we strike. Or like the others said, Zippo has always been happy to fix the lighter for no cost. I've had 5 zippos in my life (51), still have two, the others were lost.

The wick is new, and not that absorbent yet, it will "Burn in", keep lighter damp with fliud, not wet, and YES Zippo will replace it for free if you send it to them.

I've sent them back to Zippo before, for service/repair, no charge, just post it to them, the address is on the net.

They usually light the first time, every time. Add more fluid. They're guaranteed for life:

open the lid and leave it open for a few seconds before trying to light it. also, once it is lit, let it sit there and burn for about 5 or 10 minutes. then try to light it.
