Hi
I am 5 weeks
I need some advice on Ectopic pregnancies, all the websites say about it but not in much detail.

Is pain with the above constant and more than a period like pain?

Is it always in the abdomen, or can be in the lower back?

I have had some lower back aches on my left side for a few days but has seemed to have gone with rest, but i have muscle ache in my left shoulder....its not a pain it just feels like ive got a pulled muscle (sleep with a fan on at night!)

NO BLOOD or pain when i wee
I have no cramps today just my dodgy shoulder, my midwife said it doesnt seem to be anything to worry about but i just need someone to kinda put my mind at rest!

Ectopic pregnancies cause INCREDIBLE pain sometimes from what I understand. Fortunately they are also rare. Sounds like your midwife is right - take care :)

Shoulder pain can be a symptom on an ectopic pregnancy. At 5 weeks symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy may not present themselves yet.

Personally, what I would do, especially as you are obviously really worried, is phone the nearest hospital to you that has an early pregnancy unit and speak to the midwives there rather than your midwife at your GPs.

I had a bleed at 5½ weeks and I called the EPU and they had me straight in for a scan plus they were really nice and supportive.

Go to www.ectopic.org.uk and click on symptoms and follow the advice. There is also a section on Shoulder Tip Pain which is a symtom associated with Ectopics.

I wouldnt wait for advice on here, check out the website where there are informed people advising and ring your local hospital.

Good Luck. xxxx

I have been told that shoulder "ache/pain" associated with early pregnancy is an indicater of an eptopic - I have had an eptopic & to be honest had no signs what so ever until I colapsed & remember nothing until after surgery.
I really would get to your doctor now, or at least ring him as he might suggest going straight to A&E. you do not need to bleed external & obviously you will not know you have an internal bleed unless you seek medical attention.
Midwifes are great but the are not medical proffesionals and I personally would not want to put my own health at risk by relying on one persons opinion. there is no harm in getting these things checked out & great if you are wrong & over reacted, better that then have an advanced eptopic & risk your future fertility.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in February this year and there is NO mistaking the pain, I couldn't move let alone get to the computer. But go to your doctor and demand a scan anyway better safe than sorry. My doctor wouldn't give me a scan and I lost the baby my tube and very nearly my life at 9 weeks. No harm in checking things out :)

Your midwife is probably right, if you were having a ectopic pregnancy you would have loads of pain in your tummy, your shoulder has nothing to do with your pregnancy and you can expect some slight pain in your tummy and back as everything is stretching! as long as you have no heavy bleeding, I say heavy because I have had light bleeding with both my pregnancy, and pain you should be fine, I wish you all the best and please please try not to worry about two much because you have another 8 months left to worry!! wishing you all the best x
