In parts of the rural South where they grow, some people will pick them for you, taking them to a processor to sell. You can get a "nut basket" with a handle so you can get them from the lawn without stooping over for hours. Then just toss in a bucket.
To keep some for the winter, we get out the rubber gloves and throw the walnuts into feed bags and, really, put the tied bag on the gravel drive to the horse barn. The hulls are so hard that they will not crack as the tires "rub" the husks off as they run over them. I know it sounds goofy, but we have been doing this for years with great success!

I'm sorry I don't know the name of this, but a garden supply store can probably help you. Around here alot of people use them to pick up the pecans from their lawn and it would work perfect for you. It is a long handled device < no bending down> with either a scoop on the end or some little metal fingers that let you scoop up the nut and gather them quickly. If all else fails, you might be able to fix a nail on the end of a stick like a trash picker upper? Jab it at the outer husk of the nut and it would probably work!:)

You`re lucky they don`t fall on your pavement like mine. You have to bend over and pick em up.
