It is not any type of physical change but due to the fact that they are forced to nest on the ground and in wide open spaces... well to help with the survival of the species they nest in massive groups.

I hope this is a trick question and you have a really fascinating answer...the short one is any biological system adapts to its environment.

A "fact" about flamingos is that their diet makes them the pink colour they are- but such facts don't tell us why they have adapted so this is the response. Scientists do not tell us why, it is simply something they cannot remain pink if you change their diets. SOunds like an adaptation the easy way to me..
