My baby is formula fed. I usually mix with Nursery Water, but I've just discovered that he is out. This has never happened before, and he's never used anything besides his bottled water. My mom said to boil water until the market opens. Is boiling really as safe as bottled?

For the record, I wasn't able to breast feed my son. I feel very guilty about it even though it wasn't my fault. No need to bring that up.

Of course. Once you bring water to its boiling point it kills all bacteria. So, just give it a good boil, let it cool, and then use it. The baby will be fine. I promise.

I have never even heard of Nursery water! I always use cooled boiled water for my babies if needed. Obviously the large water companies are just trying to make more money out of people who don't know any better and want to do the best thing for their babies. I dare say that this type of bottled water is simply boiled water anyway!

its your choice how you feed your baby, and for the record, i didnt breastfeed either for my own reasons. thats freedom of every womans choice and you shouldnt be judged by it or care what people think.
i have always used boiled tap water for my sons feeds and hes been fine - only ever ill twice (hes two next month) - and one of those times was due to a vaccine (surprisingly it wasnt mmr it was something else. meningococcal i believe).
what i'lll say is research any water problems in your area, ie legonaires, alluminium content - some areas do have issues in their water supply and regardless of the cost, i can totally understand you using bottled water. If i could afford it i probably would too, although i also believe that children need to be exposed to some things naturally to develop a better immune system.
anyway, what im trying to say is its ok to use it once in a while and then if you still want to use bottled just stock up again and fingers crossed it'll be fine and baby wont notice.
hope my info has helped and again, if people disagree with you on things? dont worry - its your choice and i bet you're a great mum!

With my first 2 ( 13 years ago ), I didn't even think of buying bottled water. LOL. Why waste money on something i could get from the tap. Needless to say, I don't like the taste of tap water anymore. But, I digress. I always used to put the kettle on and boil water for the formula.

Boiled water is perfectly ok. I would filter it if you have a filter, but it's no big deal if you don't.
My daughter used boiled water for the first 15 months or so. She only got sick once or twice in all that time. Then she went to child care and got sick for an entire month! I guess she hadn't had any chance to build up resistance because all her water and food was sterilized.
I assume this is your first? People get lazier with the second and subsequent. Third child and you'll feed her straight from the tap :P

Hi are you using a copper kettle? If so you need to get a electic one as the copper would leave a weird taste. Mabey you need to look at the source of where you get your water from if it is your home taps then you may need a plumber to check the pipes if it is from somewhere outside your home start using the tape water. When boiling the water that should get rid of any bactiria dont think sunlight will do much. If all else fails tell your husband to get over it and just drink the water from a tap. good luck

You can boil it a lot of bottle waters are just bottled and cleaned tap water. Just make sure you let the bottled water cool before you give it to the baby,

yes. if you use a microwave it is even safer since the radiation kills pretty much everything. just be careful the water doesn't flash-boil when microwaving; it can cause serious injury. to avoid this put on an oven mitt and stir the water with a fork before taking it out (keep your face WAY CLEAR of the open door)

As long as it has been boiled it is quite safe. Unless you have a dodgy water supply. In Australia we use tap water that has been boiled, not bottled water.

Probably better for him actually. If the Nursery Water you are using to mix the formula has added fluoride, you should really stop until your baby is about a year old according to the American Dental Association.
