John Stuart Mill said;

"I would rather be the most unhappy Socrates that the happiest Pig in the world".

I will add, I prefer to be the head of a cat than being the tail of a lion. And I certainlyprefer to be brilliant but depressed than a happy stupid. The stupids happiiness is also going to be stupid only!

Well, the problem is that depression inhibits productivity, so you could be very brilliant, but maybe you couldn't do anything. It's not really a trade-off anyway, because often when people are treated for depression it allows their true self to take control and have a more enjoyable life.

Stupid but happy.

But...it IS possible to be brilliant AND happy... if you know how to use it...rather than being a victim of yourself.

Hrm.... Hard question but I think I would choose stupid but happy. I think that happiness is one key to living a good life. Depression just makes a person feel down & sad all the time. What's the fun in that? Brilliance isn't everything in this world. :x

I'd rather be stupid and happy. Because I think it's easier to learn something new then to find happiness. You can always learn but becoming happy isn't as easily "fixed" even on medication.

I'd rather be stupid but happy. Life is too beautiful to waste.

Call me stupid but being happy beats being depressed any day.

Neither - because either one can be fixed.
If you are stupid you can get an education and still be happy.
If you are depressed you can take medication and still be brilliant.
