I think a lot of people are discouraged from being creative. We are expected to follow the rules, run with the pack, don't look odd, etc. These sort of admonitions succeed in discouraging creativity. I think that if we were more encouraging of being different and trying out new things you would see much more creativity.

People are not afraid of being creative, they are afraid of being ridiculed and ostracized for their creativity. My eldest son once drew a pict of his teacher being blown up. At the time he may have been 8 or 10 and this turned in to a huge ordeal about my mental health of my child instead of just a child's drawing. Imagine if those people who had that fit could treat Stephan King or Rob Zombie that way. So much for my love a blood guts and gore in a movie.

Being creative takes a lot of courage in the individual because creativity expresses the true inner person. I agree with one of the responses on here, many people lack confidence thus they are unable to truly bring out their creative side. However unless creativity is inborn or shaped by different experiences.

Because creativity is no longer what is means. It means doing something that nobody else has done, and that's the dumbest take on creativity ever.

Because creativity attracts criticism. And criticism can be harmful to sensitive ppl.

I know that when I create, my creations are like my lil babies. And if I get criticised too much, I'll feel attacked.
