She's probably been getting tons of things for baby so maybe you should get her something. Like a gift card to a salon or day spa. Maybe take her to get her nails done. A cute idea would be getting her and her hubby a gift certificate to a restaurant and include a coupon for one free night of babysitting to go with it.

Any gift is a great gift. I got gifts for my daughter. However, the gifts I personally liked were: pretty scented lotions, a small box of chocolates, some magazines, dinner (my mom-in-law came over and cooked and cleaned the kitchen), and my mom would come over and do all my laundry. Making dinner and doing laundry were probably the best gifts. Donating your time is an affordable and great idea!

my personal signature gift for all newborns is a blanket from Gymboree. They are nice and thick and soft and double sided. not to mention very cute and affordable. They also match with the line of clothes that comes out with it - I bought a newborn set of pants shirt and a blanket all for about $30 all on sale. Search for the sales and buy then!

You mean for the baby or the MOM??
FOR BABY!
DIAPERS and BABY WIPES!!! That is somethine that she will need for a lONG time... BUt I would get size 2 or up.. Most babies (unless the are premies) don't stay in Newborn diapers or size 1's very long at all...
If you are talking about for the Mother..
then scented lotions, candles, Flowers, YouR TIME... So she can take a shower or a nap..

Well when I had my son I got alot of plants and ballons (way too many) they were nice but, I got diapers and wipes from a few people and that was alot more helpful!!! I also got a few giftcards. That was awesome!! My opinion is , its better to get something practical that will be of good use because baby supplies are not cheap by no means!!!

i think you can never have too many bibs - some friends of ours from overseas bought us a bib with our sons name and a soccer ball embroidered on it and i thought it was great
another friend had a white bath towel embroidered with his name - affordable yet useful and personal
good luck
