I was wondering what a doctor feels for when he pushes on your belly if he thinks you could be pregnant? What are they looking for and where exactly is it (for example) around the belly button or lower.

I'm not a doctor, but I asked my doctor this question during my first visit. She said she was feeling for the uterus and how hard it is and where it's at. She said I felt pregnant even before she did all of the lab work. I'm now 12 weeks pregnant.

Well, I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but when I was checked, they checked to see the size of my uterus. Even though I wasn't that far along yet. At the most I was about 6-7 weeks only. They press mainly a centimeter or so below your belly button. The amount of pressure you will feel varies, it depends on the doctor doing it. I've had three different doctors do it before, some use more pressure then others. Sometimes, they'll press a bit around other parts of your stomach, just to see if your ovaries and other parts are okay.
