Keep food to a minimum..even ask guest to bring a plate of something.
Because I was having a girl I had a pink theme and everyone used either pink plates or pink foods to bring.

As for games:
Guess the girth...You give each guest a piece of string and they cut it to what they think your stomach size is.
Guess the baby food...take all the labels off the food(Write on the bottom what it is) and have everyone guess the food.
The a-z game...give your guest a time limit to fill in as many names starting with the letters of the alphabet as possible.

These are just a few..check out google for some more ideas

Well, I haven't been to a baby shower in a long time. But the last time I went, we played a game where there were mushed up candy bars inside diapers, and we had to guess what the candy bar was just by looking at it. There was no tasting allowed, and no touching the chocolate either. There was some finger food, a cake, and punch. As for the invite, I don't remember what was on the invite. Sorry, wish I could have been more help.

Well... I just had one on Sunday, I'll tell you what went on at mine and maybe that might help.
- Invitations went out, most importantly you need to add where you are registered. (I registered at babysrus.com and target.com). Usually they have lists for you that will help you add what you need for the new arrival
- Food was basic, finger food at the most. Fruit and little sandwich snacks. Make sure you get a cake though, really important!!!
- Games range from guess how many inches you measure around the belly, whoever guesses closest wins a prize.
You could also play a fun game where you buy different chocolates, heat them up in a diaper so it looks like poop and then have your guests guess what the chocolate is. It's silly but pretty funny.
-A great thing to do is add a competition about guessing the date and time of arrival for the little one. Promise the winner a 20 dollar gift card for someplace and to enter the contest the participant has to bring a pack of disposable diapers. If you do this you'll get a load of diapers! Anyways hope this helps, I had a great time at mine!!

We played this one at college...get as many chocolate candy bars as you can and melt them in baby diapers so the candy bars look a bit like poop. The goal of the game is to get the women to smell the candy "poop" and try to guess what candy bar it is. Have them write it down and put there name on it and have them pass the papers to you. Let them know the contents of the diaper are not human waste before you start the game!

Give everyone a necklace. Can be just a ribbon with a cheap charm on it. Choose certain words that go with the shower, such as "baby", "awe", "cute", "shower", etc. When someone says one of the taboo words, the first person to hear her gets her necklace. The person with the most necklaces in the end wins a prize. (Prizes were baby-related items)

As for food, the girl bought a chocolate fondue foundtain and had strawberries, banana pieces, grapes, pineapple, and other fruit to dip in the fountain. I brought little cupcakes with little candies on top of the cupcakes that were baby rattles. You can buy mini cupcake holders at walmart.

Look up baby shower invitations on the 'net. I'm sure you'll get scores of ideas.

Good luck!

Don't you have a sibling, mom, relative, close friend, someone to help you. My mom and sister did my entire baby shower. I helped sending out the invitations (you can get free ones if you register at Babies R Us) and I showed up, that's it. Look online. Games are simple and quick because no one really wants to play the game, they just want the prize. Food can be whatever you want (deli sandwiches, pizza, finger foods, etc.). The invitations are like any other: why, where, when, rsvp, etc. Have fun!
