Hi Dave, it's exactly the same natural reflex as when we yawn & stretch our arms out. If you notice they also flare all their fins while doing it, they enjoy it!

Check your water quality-ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Ammonia and nitrites should be 0 ppm and nitrates under 20 ppm. Could also be parasites, or something stuck in it's mouth-like a piece of gravel. Keep an eye on him for other symptoms.

Fish just do this to stretch out their jaw muscles. They may also erect their fins while doing this. It is perfectly normal, so don't worry.

It's not yawning it's opening and closing its mouth to take in oxygen.

it means they are tired of spending all day in what to them is a magnified view of a big azz that just taps the glass and stares at them all day sounds to me my friend like you have a case of sick and tired on your hands......sick and tired of living in a bowl and looking at that creepy skull ornament i have to use as some sort sleeping device... if i were them i would blow some bubbles right out of my back side at YOU!....LOL
