You would have to ask a judge in the state your in about that one. You can call and set up an appointment and it won't cost anything for that answer. Then you will know for sure.

If the person was a registered marriage celebrant, and filed all the correct paperwork, and you got a marriage certificate, then yes, you are legally married. They may not have been a religious leader, but that wouldn't negate the other.
However if the one who married you was neither a registered celebrant or an ordained minister then the possibility exists that you are not legally married.
Check the county records for the registration of the marriage, and if there's none, have a second ceremony, with a legal celebrant, and all is fixed.

p.s. There is no sin involved, if you believed that you were married, before God and your congregation, and lived as man and wife. To sin there has to be knowledge of that sin, and the choice to do so.

If you had a marriage license and the person that performed the ceremony signed the paperwork and then you turned it into the state and they sent you a marriage certificate then you are married... there are others besides ordained ministers that can perform a marriage ceremony legally

If you have a marriage licence given to you in court.. the ceremony could of being preform by Mickey Mouse in disney world and yes you are married..

I was married by the mayor, and it's legal. Did you get a marriage license? Can you go to the town clerk and get a copy of said license? Where did you get married?

Too many variables to give you a good answer.
