Just one of several viewpoints. We have become a throwaway, disposable, society. Where once we fixed things when they got broken, or took care to make sure they didn't get broken in the first place, now the attitude is, "Dump it, and just go get another one." Seems all the sacrifices parents made years and years ago so their children wouldn't have it as hard as they did, or have to struggle or work so hard, or go without, has backfired. When marriage and family becomes more responsibility and work than it does fun, move on rather than fix it and work together. And it is indeed sad when you consider how people sacrificed and struggled just so they could raise their children in this country, and how difficult it was for them to come here; legally, I mean. Divorce was unheard of when I was a child, it was equated with immaturity, laziness, and failure. I'm sure there were some legitimate reasons like abuse and alcoholism, whatever. But never did I know of anyone that got divorced up until the last 20 years or so. And now it's so common, like it's almost normal; like teenage pregnant girls seem to be normal too nowadays. It's like the word "No," has ceased to exist in the American vocabulary.

Because people now believe in taking the quickest easiest way out when they encounter any kind of ordeal.

"I'm bored with my spouse" equates to "I want a divorce."
"He likes to things with his buddies" equates to "I want a divorce."
"He cheated on me...5 years ago" equates to "I want a divorce now"

Things which used to be a challenge and something to be conquered by the couple, is now an excuse to quit and find greener meadows.

People don't even think about their kids anymore. Short of a bonifide abusive situation, sticking together for the kids' sake is a great idea. That's what builds a society, families sticking together and overcoming obstacles for the greater good. If you're not happy, fix the problem, don't quit.

American divorce courts FAVOR WOMEN: it's just THAT simple. The richer the hubby is, the higher the chances are the wedding bell will crack and a nasty divorce follows---where the soon to be divorcee gets HALF (which can a juicy amount tossed in HER bank account) of everything they acquired as a couple--that can be sold for the highest dollar!!!

Worse if kids are involved---where she gets the HOUSE (and its costs of upkeep covered) as well as CHILD SUPPORT, based on HIS salary!!! In this scenario, it's where the divorced wife gets her cake AND eats some too.

Common moms also fare well too: child support can pay the kids needs AND be a nice tidy source of steady income!!!

You'd be hard pressed to find a miserable divorcee in America. She's estatic, her attorney(s) as well, the kids are confused and the ex-hubby is bemoan living in Hell on Earth!!!

I think there are two reasons:

1) The religious fanatics love the no sex before marriage thing. So virtual strangers marry thinking it is forever. But then they discover they are not sexually compatible or just don't life living together.

2) Non-religious people get married for the wrong reasons, perhaps to early in the relationship. They are not bound by religious dogma so when it is not working out they get out of the marriage.

Because people base their decisions on how they feel. You can't be led around by your feelings.Feelings come and go.Love is really a decision and commitment. The grass is not greener on the other side.If you read the Christian bible and believe in Jesus then you will learn these things.

Texas, that's nonsense.
The Bible-Belt red states have the higher figures for per-capita divorce, proving nicely that more 'god' does not make longer marriage!

Because people don't think ahead and don't comunicate. They want to live in the now and not think about what they may or may not be getting themselves into.
