You are not suffering from boredom by any chance are you? Busy people can't spare the time to sleep excessively.

I started with symptoms like this about 18 months ago. I have found out a lot about the many causes of fatigue. :o)
In general, I don't think that you should be terribly worried. You should certainly see your doctor, though. There are tons of things that can cause this and most of them are pretty simple. Your doctor will probably start by checking you for mono (they can do this with a drop of blood in the office now), if that is negative, they'll probably do some more comprehensive blood work. Vitamin defeciencies are a very common problem they could find and are usually easily fixed. Thyroid problems are also a common source of extreme fatigue but there are certainly many many others. The majority of these can be found in blood tests.
Unless you have other very clear symptoms of depression or seasonal affective disorder (depression due to the lack of sunlight in the winter months) your doctor should certainly look for any biological sources first. As my doctor said "Depression is a diagnosis of exclusion and should only be considered after all other avenues have been explored." Good luck. I know how frustrating and debilitating excessive sleepiness can be.

Firstly I am not a doctor nor anyone providing professional advice. I have learnt a little bit about this sort of thing as my son wasn't sleeping properly and it meant he was tired during the day even though he sleeps for 10 hrs a night. I would suggest you are not actually entering the deepest form of sleep probably because something is waking you from this stage to a lighter stage of sleep. It could be physical or psychological. If you don't fall into the deepest stage of sleep, your body is not getting the required level of rest, hence your tiredness throughout the day, even though it appears you are sleeping for long periods. You should awake from 8hrs of sleep feeling refreshed and energetic. I would consult your GP and ask for them for a referral to a sleep specialist who can pinpoint your problem or point you in the right direction. It may also be diet related etc. First step - see your doctor. Good Luck

There are many things that can cause excessive lethargy. Lack of vitamin B12 or maybe a virus. Most of these causes are harmless and treatable. You should consult your doctor if it continues though.
