If that happens, then what next? Will we go back to Prohibition? Will we have our food regulated? Will we be required to exercise daily?
Maybe the government doesn't trust us to take care of ourselves and our families, but we really should have the choice to whether we want to kill ourselves in our own homes.

This is what happens in some cockamamie City, County or State decides to regulate morality. Smoking is terrible, I smoked for 30 years before I quit. All the time I smoked I tried to talk kids out of starting to smoke. Sometimes I even succeeded. Banning smoking in public buildings is fine by me. But the banning of smoking in private places, i.e. my home, my yard, my car, and my business is not the government's responsibility. The moral police should instead worry about what is important in life like taxes.

I think what you heard was about the city of Belmont, CA, passing a ban on smoking anywhere except in a private single-family home -- not the US government passing a law for the country.
However, the Belmont law includes a ban on smoking in your own apartment or condo. I think it's an insane violation of property rights and individual privacy.

I totally understand, I live in Australia and we havn't gone that far yet but you can no long smoke in pubs and bars, or pretty much any public indoor place. You cant even smoke in some outdoor places.
I do not smoke either and belive they shouldn't be able to that when to smoke tobacco is not illegal and untill they do make it illegal they should leave people alone to do what they want in their own life. I do believe you souldn't smoke around kids and babies but that is it.

I have not heard this yet but if they were going to do that why wouldnt they just ban the sale of tabacco all together becuase if you cant smoke in your house where would you smoke?
If they are trying this it will never pass and just becuase they are attempting it doesnt mean it has any support
Things like this is usually just one person trying to prove a point. Like when Charlie Wrangle tried to reenstate the draft he really didnt want it he jsut wanted to get a point across

This is the first I have heard of this and I doubt it would pass a constitutional challenge as it could easily be found to violate the 14th amendment.
Though if you are at all concerned about the resale value of your house that should be reason enough not to smoke in your house.

This seems like an infringememt of civil liberties in my opinion. Yes,banning the sale of tobacco products would seem to be the better answer. I myself am a smoker but I would have no problem if tobacco was to become illegal.

I didn't hear about that, but if it's true...that would be crazy! It's in your own home so I personally believe you should do as you please. Smoking is a very bad habit but I think education about the effects of smoking is more important than trying to ban smoking in the home.

Vote to protect our country and restore us to an America that we were originally meant to be. Get us back to what being an American really means! We need to protect our Constitution! Please vote for Ron Paul in 2008! He stands for less government and protecting our civil rights....he voted against the Patriot Act and against all of the illegal laws that have been passed in the last 14 years! They have no right to tell us what to do in our homes! None! They need to make cigarettes illegal to manufacture if they want to control something but that would be to blatant and they cannot control capitalism in such a blatant way...
Nora...I feel your pain!!!!!

I think that is intrusion. I don't need the goverment telling me what I can and cannot do in realtions to my own body. If I choose to smoke, then I will smoke.
