The tiny tots in our neighbourhood, start coming around about 5:30. Most of them have been and gone by 7:00 or 7:30. Older youngers, usually stragglers, often are still making the rounds long after dark. If we still have treats left, they get extras. If not, we're obliged to turn off the outside light. Depending upon where you live, 5 p.m. sounds O.K. It goes dark early in some areas, and little ones get tired climbing stairs in awkward costumes. I'm sure no one will mind. Have fun!

Most cities and towns establish Halloween trick or treating hours--that normally end just as the sun sinks into darkness--which is safe and fun enough for the kids to enjoy: Remember--they are focused on the candy!!! You might want to contact your local police station or sheriff's office for more information on specific times.
I'm sure you know all the other safe trick or treating tips...
Some smaller towns often put on a large "block party" after trick or treating....where the neighbors gather for some safe fun and free food for all to enjoy.

I agree . . . 5 pm is a good time to start. Especially for the younger kids.

Well 5pm is dinner time for many people so I don't think that's a good time. I would say sometime after 6. and then stop around 7:30.

I'd say whenever it's starting to get a little dark. Most towns actually have times set to take your children trick or treating.

I would check your local paper because most towns have a designated time that trick-or-treating starts, usually between 5pm and 6:30pm.

Times have changed. Usually 6:00pm departure, but definitely allow enough a time to be back no later than 9:00pm. And MAKE SURE YOUR PETS ARE INSIDE FOR THE NIGHT.
