John Edwards running as an independent would split the Democratic vote and insure a Republican victory. I am sure he feels that Hillary Clinton is better than anything the Republicans have to offer.

Here's my prediction: Right now Hillary has a huge lead over the 2nd runner up, Barak Obama. Right around April of next year Obama will accept Hillarys invitation to run as her running mate and the two will be completely unstoppable. It will be a cold day in hell before I vote for that ticket, but I don't see anybody beating Clinton/Obama. As for John Edwards? He should thank Ann Coulter. Without her comments about him, nobody would even remember that he was running!

Hillary Clinton has the network of fundraisers she inherited from Bill Clinton and will most likely win the Democratic nomination. Thus, John Edwards is opting to run as independent to have a chance.

The Religious Right already lays claim to who will running as an independent.

So John Edwards, be a good sport and accept defeat graciously.

Why would he do that? Even if he looses, which he might he would loose whatever influence he has in the Democratic party if he did that.

He also doesn't have the financial or popular support to do that.

Remember John Anderson? He went from a respected senior representative to a traitor overnight.
