This question applies to both the US and UK sizing. After a little bit of research I've come to the conclusion that they are the same size..is this true? Please explain.
I wear a 36DD, so would this be a 34/36E?

I'm not bragging... I honestly want to know. Please don't bother answering if you can't offer at least a partially thought out answer.

Actually, I want to clarify the US/UK thing.. I'm moving to the UK and want to know roughly what size to buy there. I've looked at several websites, and some list a DD as an E but there's also the size difference some companies have which could be pushing all the sizes up by one. Do most companies do this or am I just looking at the wrong websites?

From most manufacturers, a DD and an E measure as the same cup. The difference is in the cut of the cup. The DD will tend to lift and push the breasts forward (B52) while the E will be rounder shape (half-melons). It just depends on which shape you prefer.
36DD = 36E
add: Cacique tends to run large by a cup, most others are true to measure.

In US sizing or American design a DD is not the same as an E. But I do find there are differences when purchasing from the UK which is why I prefer to shop/order. Personally, the Freya E and DD are slightly different.I would say the E is larger. DD in the US feel tighter.
Now remember, the cup size is to hold all of your breast flesh. If you have what you think is fat hanging out, you've measured wrong. Breast tissue is fat. Look here at this video, she explains measuring so very well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Jk55ep4XUQ

I wear a 34DD and was told by a lady who owns a lingerie store in my town that I would also fit a 34E. So I'm going to say its the same. I think a DDD can also fit an F.

They are not the same size. The number part of the size (i.e. the 34 or 36) is the measurement around your rib cage, under your breasts. The letter size (DD, E etc.) is the measurement around the fullest part of you chest. For each inch difference between the measurement around your rib cage and around the fullest part of your chest, the letter goes up.
For example, if around your rib cage you measure 36, and around the fullest part of your chest you measure a 39, you wear a C. When you get to D you start going into double DD and triple D for each added inch, and so on.
