They were the race of whichever country they were from...So, for example, if there were 524 Jews that got killed from one town in the country of Poland, then they were of the Polish race, but of the Jewish religion. Get it? The race(s) that suffered were those who helped defend the world against the Germans, and all of those who were Jewish, homosexual, etc. living in those countries that Germany dominated.

The Jews consider them selfs a nation. This is based on the biblical line where God says "I will make of you a great nation" reffering to people who will accept the covenant of the Torah.
The Jewish nation is based on religion because you can convert to Judaism (accepting the covenant) and become a Jew. But if you are born a Jew, the only way to stop being a Jew is to convert to some other religion.
Of course Hitler really didn't care about any of this. He considered anyone with even one grandparent of Jewish descent to be a "racial" Jew regardless of their religion. Those people got sent to the concentration camps.

Jew and jewish religion are basically the same thing.
But the Holocaust affected many other people apart from the jews so the victims and survivors won't all belong to that religion.

The same.
A Jew is a person tha belongs to the group of people that claim to be descent from Jacob (or converted to it) and connected by cultural or religious tie.
A Jew is a member of the Jewish people, an ethnic group originating in the Israelites or "Hebrews" of the ancient Middle East. The ethnicity and the religion of Judaism, the traditional faith of the Jewish nation, are strongly interrelated, and converts to Judaism are both included and have been absorbed within the Jewish people throughout the millennia.

The Nazis declared "Jew" a race based on linguistic lineage. Most of the people persecuted or killed by the Nazis were Europeans.
