Waiting to have sex?

Question

I’m always seeing commercials on TV telling young people to wait to have sex. It’s always kind of funny to me because it assumes that everyone has the ability to have sex. But when I was in high school, I looked like a super-young little boy and I couldn’t have gotten laid if I had tried. I had no choice but to wait.
So my question is: How many people actually feel like waiting to have sex is something they had a choice of whether or not to do? In other words, could you have gotten sex if you wanted to when you were young?
Please include whether you’re male or female in the answer.

Let me clearify because I’m getting some answers that are misinterpreting the question:
If you didn’t have sex as a teenager, was it because you chose to wait even though you could have easily gotten laid, OR was it because you couldn’t have gotten any?

Choice. This is actually a good question, I like it. My girlfriend and I both are choosing to wait, even though it can be very hard at times. We're sticking to our guns and waitin'.

Everything in life is about choices. I grew up in an all-girls Catholic school til high school and if I really wanted to have a boyfriend at that time, it was pretty difficult (I didn’t have til I went to college). Having sex as a teenager comprises a lot of major decisions and responsibilities. Whether if u used protection or not, or if you are realy well educated to even go through sex at such a young age. I believe that teens should be ready enough to face the physical and emotional changes they would undergo after sex. As far as I’m concerned, I really prepared for that (like I said, I was already in college), and I have read a lot of teen magazines which teaches contraception and safe sex. I guess, it is definitely a person’s choice if he/she is willing to wait til they grown up or after marriage. Or at least be responsible enough to know the consequences. Luckily, I grew up pretty well and waited for the right person to be intimate with. I had no regrets waiting to be 20 when I had sex for the first time. Things should be well thought of beforehand before engaging into something serious such as these. I tell u, this really does not kill the excitement... being unprepared and accidentally impregnated does. :) (or getting an STD for that matter)

The circumstances that currently keep you from getting laid are only temporary. I can guarntee you that things will change. It might not be until later, perhaps after high school if/when you go to collage. You will change, the people around you will change, and eventually you WILL meet that person that will happily fulfill your desire to get laid. So at some point, you WILL be faced with the desicion of "do you" or do you save your self for marriage.

The only likely exception are those that die (say from a car accident) before they get to that next stage in life (such as graduation) to start meeting more people... but then again, if that happens, getting laid will likely not be on the top of your worry list ;)

In high school it was impossible even if I wanted it. But oh crap did I bloom just after college. Forget about it! I had to beat them off with a stick, but usually didn't. Now I am 26 years old, father of 5 children, all different women, and nursing a bad case of herpes. Come to think of it, it might be a good idea to wait for the "right" girl, namely a good wife.
