I am not sure what you mean, but I believe the position is only to reverse the 1707 Act of Union of Parliament, not the previous Union of the Crowns of a century before. This would therefore mean that the ruling monarch would remain, Scotland would become part of the commonwealth just like countries like Australia or Canada etc.

By "Monarchy", I assume you mean an autocratic Monarchy, where the King or Queen has absolute power, rather than the constitutional Monarchy we currently have and would maintain if Scotland were to become independent.
In that case I think our prospects would be pretty dire. It would be a huge move backwards both politically and socially. Such a system might have worked centuries ago when the feudal clan system was at it's height, but Scotland today is a modern progressive democracy and it's people would never accept an absolute ruler.
I feel certain that if the Scottish people had the choice of being independent under an absolute Monarch, or remaining a democracy within the UK they would definitely choose the latter.
As for "likely changes under such self rule", I think it would be very difficult to predict and would depend entirely on the agenda of the person who became the Monarch. One thing is for sure though, such a huge step backwards couldn't be good for anybody apart from the Monarch him or herself.
I hope this has answered your question better than most other answers here which don't seem to have addressed the hypothetical situation you proposed at all.

T-Bell & Brazille.....
Some misconceptions here. As someone who has to deal with drunks, druggies etc and who lives in England. I'm amazed at how many Scots I have to deal with, LOADS!!!! So I'm afraid Scotland does export a lot of it's problems to England and is probably happy to do so because it means some one else has to not only deal with it, but also pay for it!!
Scotland has never been online to be the richest country in Europe not now not ever, a wealthy country perhaps, but not the richest! England has always been traditionally the more wealthy neighbour full stop.
As for slums, they're slums in all parts so the UK including Scotland (just travel into Glasgow on a train and you'll see what I mean).

An independent Scotland would have been the richest country in Europe if the Labour Government of the seventies not lied to the people.
This sort of question dredges up the usual idiocy, from Scotland being full of drunks and with no industry.
Come and have a look Nigel and see a modern European country with the usual concerns. Then sod off back to your English slums and your BNP and your kneejerk reactions and cliches.
Scotland IS going to break away at some point.
London will desperately try to see it otherwise but a swing to the Tories in England will be the last straw for most Scots.
Wozza - yes, sadly some Scots end up as bums in London but the figures about Scotland and oil showed that the country's citizens could have been the best off in Europe.
There were clever Scots (Labour) who conspired to keep this quiet in the seventies. Well it's out now!

I've always felt that Scotland got a raw deal when it bonded with England. As I understand it the Scottish nobility sold the people out and make sweet-heart deals with the English nobility.
No one I've corresponded with from Scotland likes being in the UK. As a matter of fact they hate it.
I'd dislike it too if I were the poorer-little brother of England. The question is, Is Scotland being held back? If so, why? and why don't they get out? Would it create an Irish situation?

WHY haven't scotland left he UK, a lot of that is because the english tied up a lot of the oil money so they would still get it.
With the way the Govt in London is going (even with a Prime Minister who is Scottish) I think that the scots are more likely to vote in more SNP to pull away from the english next time round.
Just glad it's no longer a major problem for me, since I left the UK anf moved to Norway last year Best move I made

Yes, if thats what the Scottish want. One of the factors which made the Union originally attractive to Scotland was unfettered access to the English empire. With the empire gone, Scotland is free to trade with the whole world, not to mention the EU. Also, the loss of empire proves to be another reason for independence, since no one wants to be the crew on a sinking ship.!!!

I'm Scottish - i hope we will always be a United Kingdom - why do some of you hate us? - and Martin - i don't drink and I'm not a tramp - but there for the grace of God go i as they say and may i add you....
Talking of drunks - i think you can safely point your finger closer to home. *smiling*
EDIT: wozza - We in Scotland didn't 'export' what u call 'drunks' south of the border - they moved to London by choice - & i'm willing to bet they know they made a huge mistake.
Brazilleaux: good answer : )
Kavekars - you don't like the Welsh either i see - am i right in thinking you don't like anyone who isn't English - this explains a lot. It's actually sad to realise some ppl have a small mind & small heart.
End of story....
Apologies to all who gave me thumbs up if you disagree with my edit...

An Independant Scotland will not be economically and politically viable. What will be its share in world trade? What technology or industrial products it can market?Even UK itself is finding it difficult to survive an independant Scotland will be poor like Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.Only a few politicians will be benefitted by it.
