I hate how I don't know what I'm going to make a ceiling fan do by pulling the cord. Will it go faster or slower? I'm already cold, is it slow or is it already off, and if I pull the cord, will it go full blast and freeze me to death!?! I don't know how many speeds it has. Do they all have the same speed or do luxury ceiling fans have like twelve speeds, and do ghetto ceiling fans only have two?? You have to pull the cord and then sit and wait for the fan to "slow down" before knowing if you have to pull the cord again. Ceiling fans do not have brakes, but they should. I want the ceiling fan to come to a screeching halt when I tell it to. Maybe I'll just stick a broom in it next time.

apart from a pistol,
the easy way ,is remote control lol
99% of ceiling fans have three speeds, cold colder colder still
i agree with you , they are a pain , and why do we use them ,with a/c? , ive never been able to work that one out ....
and they mess up most of the time, they keep dust,on the blades, health hazard,
but you get what you pay for , pay high dollars, and it silent, pay the cheaper end of the scale , and you have noisce, pollution, right lol

My, My....we are having a bad day. I have five ceiling fans due to a boiler system in my house. They circulate the air just fine thank you. If not for them we'd have foggy Windows in the winter from the moisture, the summer air is distributed nicely because we can't afford an air-conditioner.
It's just a matter of knowing what the setting is on, looking at the fan and knowing the speed and pulling the string, once, twice or three times. Reversing them in the winter and doing the same.

No I love ceiling fans. The broom idea may make your fan come to a halt and then the fan will fall right on your head. Just listen to the sounds and you can tell what speed you are at.

most ceiling fans only have three speeds and it is very easy to tell the speeds apart if you turn it on slow enough and count how many times you pull the chain. if you stick a broom in it your are apt to break the blades. i really like my ceiling fan much better than air conditioning

Then there are the ceiling fans with remotes. People that have them never know how to work them. the light goes on the light goes off the fan starts blowing at arctic speed and then reverses...it is crazy. Just go to the thrift store and get a load of blankets and when you want it to stop reach down and toss one in it.
I have to admit I am addicted to mine I have to sleep with it on at least on low, where ever that is . is it two tugs or three?

Why don't you just disconnect it and use it to hang your laundry out to dry or something artistic?
