It sounds like the driver for your "new" CD ROM drive is missing.

Try this .....

Go to CONTROL PANEL, click on SYSTEM, then the HARDWARE tab, then DEVICE MANAGER.

Then right click on your CD ROM drive and choose PROPERTIES.

There should be a button there saying TROUBLE SHOOTER,

I just checked Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager - I don't have any yellow dots after any devices.

Have you gone into the Device Manager, right-clicked on the CD/ROM and checked Properties?

Open case. do away with CD/RW rigidity. set up CD/DVD (comparable way you took out CD/RW). close case (after checking out to keep time in case of problems). Reboot. Smile. exterior DVD rigidity isn't a controversy. ;-)

pull out the drive and try to get to the lens and clean it with a cuetip. It could just be dust (My Gamecube does the same thing) Make sure that the hardware is totally updated. If it is, "Rollback" the driver and reinstall the updates, or just reinstall the thing all together. Good Luck!
