Kinda depends on if you believe the UFO stuff.
Other than the ET close encounters, we have only speculation regards the status of life elsewhere in the universe, because we simply haven't been there.
At present technology, we are pretty much limited to counting stars. We have detected a few Jupiter sized planets outside our system, but we don't really know how common Earth class planets are. And the real elephant in the room is we have no idea how probable the occurrence of life is.
Most estimations on the likelihood or number of life bearing planets are scientifically meaningless since the statistics have been pulled from our primate keisters.

I believe it is probable that life exists elsewhere in the universe.
There is currently no evidence that there is life anywhere else in the universe.
That's an empirical and true statement. But it's also like a crab sitting on the shoreline looking at a far-off island and saying the same thing.

There is no evidence, except for some very dubious particles in a meteorite that is supposed to come from Mars and some ambiguous test results from a Mars lander.
Probability and possibility are not evidence.

There is no evidence to support the theory of life outside the Earth.
Science not only allows for it, but expects it to be so.
There is no doubt in my mind that life exists on other planets in the universe. (From simple single-celled organisms to intelligent beings)
Unfortunately, the distances in the Universe (let alone our galaxy) are so vast, that finding that life might be difficult for many centuries.
The only ones that would have any reason to doubt it would be those of a religious nature.

Dude, if there is aliens, think of this: We have crapped up our planet, torture animals and trees that are still living are going to be chopped down in a few more hours. Do these aliens really want to connect with us?! This is the most obvious conclusion: Either they are not advanced enough to have visited us, or, spotting pollution, didn't want it to infect their world.

There could be algae on Mars. There could be life on Jupiter's moon Europa.
Just look up Europa on the internet and you will get plenty of hits.
