I'm living near Heerlen. Myself I think Maastricht is a very beautyful city. A lot of students are living there.

Maastricht is a beautiful city. It is a lot better than Heerlen or Sittard. It is a very old Roman town. There are many cafes and restaurants. It beats Heerlen and Sittard by far. The university guarantees many student activities.

Maastricht, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen are quite big (for Dutch cities). Heerlen has 95.000 Maastricht 120.000. Sittard is unified with Geleen. The both have 98.000 together.

For me, I would not hesitate to choose Maastricht. But only if you have to choose between those 3. The people in Limburg are sometimes a bit to themselves and speak a dialect I can not understand.

But is that what you are looking for? A good city or a good college? Maastricht is not far from Heerlen and certainly not far from Sittard. I assume you are not going to the university, then Sittard and Heerlen are no option.
