I'm not getting this whole thing of 1/2 base, ect. Please try to explain how you get the answer. I think I'm making more of it than it is, which I did so many yrs ago in school. ugh But just not grasping it tonight.....

Well the 1/2 base times height thing is a formula you can't do it any other way...to be able to do a problem like this you have to understand, know and memorize this formula

One half times the base of the triangle times the height of the triangle gives you the area of the triangle. So if you put this formula into a mathematical sentence you get...
(1/2)(base)(height)
(1/2)(6)(8)
now you multiply the two whole numbers together and you get 48
you now must divide 48 by 2(which is the same thing as multiplying it by 1/2)
the answer is D 24

If this is still does not make sense just let me know what doesn't make sense about it in the additional information section

Draw any triangle, drop a perpendicular from peak to base.
Now make 2 rectangles on either side of the perpendicular,
With the top equalling the base segment &
the new side equal to the perpendicular.
Can you see that the area of these rectangles
is twice the area of the original triangle?
So the formula for area of a triangle is 1/2 base * height.
(6 * 8)/2 = 24 sq m

the answer is D, 24 sq meters...
A= 1/2(6) x 8
A= 3 x 8
A=24
So D is the answer...24 square meters

it particularly is a undertaking that ought to be interpreted in terms of arithmetic as follows: If Base of triangle = Base, height of triangle = Hgt, then Equation#a million: Hgt=Base-6 Equation#2: component of triangle = (a million/2)*Base*Hgt=fifty six utilising Equation#a million in Equation#2, we get: (a million/2)*Base*(Base-6)=fifty six or Base*(Base-6)=fifty six*2 or Base(sq.) -6base=112 or Base(sq.) -6Base-112=0 that's a quadratic equation the ordinary quadratic equation ax(sq.) + bx + c = 0 has the answer as: x = [-b + squareroot(b(sq.) - 4*a*c) / 2*a] OR x = [-b - squareroot(b(sq.) - 4*a*c) / 2*a] As according to the question, a=a million, b=--6, c=-112. you may now extremely work out the respond...Cheers.
