Actually they might be the 60s. They are a "black" (music labels have moved and changed) sounding band. They aren't commonly played on the radio, in fact I have only heard them play one time that I know of. I don't remember anything about the song except that it didn't "rock". I had thought that it might be the Stewart Townsend band but I can't find any evidence of a band named that. I am sure that it is The SOMENAME SOMENAME Band. Still feel strong about Townsend.

It could be The Sanford /Townsend Band. They had a hit with "Smoke From A Distant Fire". They truly were one-hit wonders. This song was their only chart entry. It peaked at #9 in 1977.
