I have about 300 1990's romance books. They are all in very good shape. I tried selling them at a garage sale for 5 cents a piece and no buyers which floored me. i tried taking them to the local book trader and she wouldn't take them - even when i said i would just donate them. The library wouldn't accept the donation. Even the womans shelter wouldn't take them. They are much too good to throw away. What else can I do?

I'm so glad you posted this. I've had the same experience, and get frustrated reading the suggestions to "donate to the library," or similar. My library won't take them, the thrift store won't take them, my neighbors won't take them. I posted several times on Freecycle and got no takers.
Anyway, you can try http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php
You can put them in your recycling bin, like suggested above.
You can put them in a bonfire for a dramatic fall party.
You can stick them in the ground vertically to make an earth-friendly flower bed border.
You can constantly carry a couple, and drop 1 in places like the doctor's office or DMV waiting room. The finder might think it's a sign of good luck, like a penny.
You can send them to your local congressman, with a mispelled note about "pleese except my donaton."

I'm surprised the library won't take them.

Try your local thrift shops.

Otherwise, try putting an ad in the Pennysaver or on Craigslist.

If you can not find anyone to take them you may send them to me, my library has already told me that they need any romance books thay can get because they go really fast. Sorry I know you don't know me, If you would feel better the library is Enka-Candler library in Enka, NC 28728, I don't know the number address.

Most cities have a "Used Books," "bookstore."
Look in the Yellow Pages.

to be honest most people do not want them and do not for the reason they cannot get rid of them same as you . i suggest that you just recycle them and help to save a whole lot of trees.
