The best example of a woman western philosopher is Ayn Rand, in terms of being listed with the all-time greats. All the others are men.
Hello Claire22,
I, coincidentally, happen to be perusing my copy of THE PERSISTENT PROBLEMS OF PHILOSOPHY at this very moment. The first edition was actually published in MARCH of 1907.
It is a very beautiful book, one of my favorites. The edition I have is from September, 1912 by Macmillan publishing.
It's actually more like a history of philosophy focusing on the major themes.
What's most interesting is that Nietzsche only receives a bit part in the grand scheme. He's barely mentioned as an "adherent" of Schopenauer. This is because MWC came so closely upon the heels of FWN that the evidence of history had not yet been laid.
She was more of an instructor on the greats rather than a great herself.

Mary Whiton Calkins (1863-1930) was an American philosopher and psychologist. She started her career as a Greek instructor at Wellesley College, but developed an interest in psychology.
Her philosophical creed was expressed through her four principal statements which were shown in her books, The Persistent Problems of Philosophy (1907) & The Good Man and The Good (1918), that the universe contained distinct mental realities, and, although the mind was from a lower level of existence, it emerged from that level to one higher that answered to new special laws. She is best remembered today for Harvard University's refusal to grant her a Ph.D..
