Accomplishments aside, I'd rather go with Hakeem 'the Dream' Olajuwon. Why? He has a lethal foot work that made defenses work extra harder defending him. He also faced many recognized big men of his time (Jabbar, Laimbeer, Mutombo, Ewing, Shaquille, David Robinson). He is a center but he could move so sweet you'll mistake him for a small forward. Also he's the real defensive dynamo of the modern era. And please don't forget that he is the only player to record two quadruple-doubles. Beat that. Now have a taste of him:

Hope this helps.

This is an age old question, and will probably remain unsolved like most 'best of' arguments when it comes to basketball.
In terms of success, Bill Russell has achieved more than any centre has in terms of NBA Championships. He lead the Celtics to 11 championships in his 13 year career with his absolute dominance on defence and imposing presence on offence.
Statistically, Wilt Chamberlain is probably with out a doubt the best centre to play the game. He average 50 points per game over a season and scored 100 points in a game once. His unique blend of size, athleticism and skill probably made him the most damaging players ever. He could do pretty much anything on the court. However, Wilt was self centred and arrogant on the basketball leaving him with only 2 championships over the course of his career.
In my personal opinion, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Hakeem Olujawan and Shaquille O'neal are all some of the greatest players of all time, however they are not in the same league as Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.

Kareem bill Wilt Hakeem Shaq in that order i imagine, yet your record is ideal! Shaq did not favor to steer in those issues to win titles. He purely led in factors or changed into 2d in factors. He nevertheless made enormous performs. also, you are able to't win championships w/o a good-to-sturdy enormous guy. there is purely one team that did not have a sufficient enormous guy (bill Cartwright) which could win titles, and that is the Jordan/Pippen Bulls. Shaq will be older, slower and injured, yet he remains were given 4 championships the position he ruled in 3 of them and no different team has gained titles w/o some enormous presense down low. And no be counted how sturdy Kobe is, he's not any Jordan to the position he can win a attractiveness w/o a good-to-sturdy enormous guy..it truly is already been shown it quite is why they misplaced a lot after Shaq (at the same time as Shaq gained yet another call) and now they were given Bynum, so now he has a threat

It has to be a split between Bill Russell, Hakeem Olajuwon and Kareem Abdul-Jabar i think these 3 were better than the next lot of great centres Wilt, Shaq, David Robinson and Patrick Ewing.

Without a doubt...Bill Russell...why?
-11 NBA championships!
-In his first NBA full season (1957–58), Russell became the first player in NBA history to average more than 20 rebounds per game for an entire season, a feat he accomplished 10 times in his 13 seasons
-Russell's 51 rebounds in a single game is the second best performance ever, only trailing Chamberlain's all-time record of 55, and he still holds the NBA record for rebounds in one half with 32
-Russell is the all-time playoff leader in total (4,104) and average (24.9) rebounds per game, he grabbed 40 rebounds in three separate playoff games (twice in the NBA Finals), and he never failed to average at least 20 rebounds per game in any of his 13 post-season campaigns.

Depends on how you score it.
Wilt Chamberlain was by far the most dominant center (or player for that matter) to ever play. He holds most of the scoring records, was the greatest rebounder ever, and was an outstanding defender.
Bill Russell was the greatest winner in history. Everywhere he went, he won. In playing 13 seasons with the Celtics, he won 11 championships , plus 2 NCAA titles with little known SanFrancisco.
They did play head to head for many years. Wilt, for the most part, dominated Russell, but Russell's teams usually won. But alot of that could be attributed to the fact that Russell's team was better.
If I had to choose one, I'd say Wilt was the greatest center who ever played.
