I'm currently a sophomore at Penn State and I could graduate a semester early or space classes out and minor in something.

My major is Finance and I was considering minoring in Economics... what do you think??

Also, if you are an employer, or know from personal experience.. how benificial is a minor? Does it give you extra money starting out at a company??.. also my GPA is 3.9, so if i maintained that and graduated a semester early, would that be as benificial as a minor?

hahaha.. umm sorry that i'm smart hun.. dont hate me because you're jealous... now if i were to brag.. I would have also mentioned that I've done that while working 2 jobs (30 hours a week while in school) to make enough money to pay for out of state tuition, my apartment and all my bills.. that's called bragging

but again, don't hate me because I have a plan for my life, and I'm motivated enough to be working towards that goal.. I'm sure you will get by and be just fine on your own... well if you ever learn how to answer someone's question instead of being rude and nasty towards someone who is asking for help... in the words of the classic teen movie Bring it On.. "that's alright, that's okay, you're gonna pump my gas some day"

have a good day and thank you for you're very helpful input

I have an MBA in Finance and a BS in Accounting with a minor in Economics. Minors always look good on the resume, but it might be better to pick a more focused minor than economics. For you I think computer science might be an excellent choice. I'm "old"... I graduated with my BS back in '78. That was before personal computers were even invented. When they did come out, I jumped on the band wagon and made a very successul career as an accounting software consultant. Back then there were no computer science courses so I had to learn for myself as PCs evolved.

Check it out and good luck!

A good career counselor would say to go for the minor to enhance your resume and show interdisciplinary strengths. I'd say something non-business for support, other than the need for economists is growing - so having that as a support may actually work well for you. Talk to a counselor about the range of position in finance and what other discplines would work for you.

Also, some graduates find that finishing in the spring works best. Sure, it pits you against more competition, but often times employers may prepare for open entry-level positions in the spring knowing they'll have the best range of candidates. Just depends on your field and the seasonally high demand period.

Besides, take your time in college. People almost never regret taking a tad longer (unless we start talking loans or failed courses!) I know my five years and double degrees were worth it to me personally!

i'd go with a minor. it's just another thing you can add to your resume. economics will also help immensely with your finance. just try to maintain your gpa throughout your last semester. that would be pretty impressive to me if i were an employer.

ps. is penn state good? i'm graduating hs this year and was thinking of going there. do you like it?

If you are interested in Economics, this is your chance to learn Economics. Don't worry so much about how it will look to others. The minor is nice, but no one will pay you more for it, and they probably won't much care. They also won't care if you graduate early. The GPA can be important in some jobs, less so in others.
