1. Is it possible to have an ACL tear and still play sports without fixing it?

2. Do they ever get MRI's mixed up?

See, I injured myself last May and gotten an MRI done about a week ago because it was still hurting me. I got my results back and my doctor tells me I have a tear in my ACL. she is surprised that it is not hurting me more and that this must be due to well developed quad muscles etc. Is this even possible? Anyone else out there with this kind of story.

I would not play with an ACL tear. Anything can get mixed up in the hospitals. I have had many knee problems in my lifetime, I've had 5 surgeries and counting. I have no cartilage and I have OS Disease in my knee which when put all together ended my sports career in high school. I'm only 21 right now and I'm telling you DO NOT play with a tore ACL. You will be heading towards ending your sports career and being in pain every day. If you think the test was mixed up, get another to make sure, but I would wait until it's healed to play again.

a torn acl cannot repair itself. I am surprised that you were able to play sports anyway. it has to be arthroscoped in surgery. I had mine grafted out of my hamstring. it was same day surgery and 6 months of therapy. I am almost as good as new now
