There is plenty of business, and it pays the bills. Seems with the divorce rate so high, there is plenty of job security. It is also easy money for someone fresh out of law school.... divorce laws are much less complex than business law or patent law.
In theory, they are supposed to serve the married parties with their best intersets in mind, but unfortunatley, both parties have a different idea on what their best interests are.
I'm sure your average attorney would say "If I don't do it, someone else will".
Strangely enough, that is the same reasoning drug dealers use.

I deal with family law and it saddens me what people will do. I've had divorces where people have been so cooperative and some where they weren't willing to give an inch for the other party. I mostly deal with custody. I'm disgusted by the conditions people will allow their children to live in. I've seen grown children have to sleep in their own feces because mommy is too stoned to clean them up. I've cried more times than I can count because some children have been given back to a neglectful parent or because I couldn't help someone more because of lack of evidence.
I also love how people blame their attorney for something they have no control over. It's the fault of the couple, not the attorney, that they are getting a divorce. They chose to get a divorce, the attorney is only doing what they asked.

First you go to law school, then you pass the bar exam in a particular state. Then you start accepting clients that need to get a divorce. The attorney is not the one tearing apart a family. The people getting a divorce are. How could anybody think to get a divorce? That is so cold and ruthless to tear apart their family! lol. I'm sorry, I just think it's funny that people transfer the actions of the clients to the attorneys as if they are the ones who are the "actors." Attorneys are just the voice of their client that understands the complexities of the law and can get their client the most fair and equitable outcome.

Sometimes divorce is the best answer. The pollyanna answer is "change and make the best of your marriage" but in reality sometimes one or both partners aren't that strong. Don't rag on the attorney, sometimes they're there to simply facilitate the process of moving on when the marriage just aint gonna work anymore. If you think a bad marriage is traumatic, try filing what you THINK is the right paperwork and getting dissed by the court and staff. I've done it, as do attorneys as well, and it takes a thick skin!!!

NOw wait just a darn minute!
If the someone wants a divorce then THAT PERSON wants to break up a family not the attorney. The attorney is only there to make sure that person gets an equal or fair share of assests and to establish fair share of custody. Its not the attorneys fault that someone wants to leave their family

Divorce attorneys came into existence by being counsel to numerous dismantling of marriage which should not be the case because this basic institution of the society must be respected.

There are many ways to look at it. Instead of "breaking up a family" maybe you can see how someone might see it as a chance to get justice for someone, or for a family to start over again in better circumstances for everyone involved. Or maybe it is jsut a paycheck in a lucrative field - lots of people, probably most people, account for their jobs that way,

Its not the attorneys that are breaking appart the marriage. They only represent their client, and help their client carry out their wishes.
