Is this even possible? If so where can I find a general map of the waterways I would use?

Sure it's possible .
Your basic routing takes you to Chicago ,then down the Sanitary Ship Canal ,into the Des Plaines River > Illinois River and the finally the Mississippi just above St Louis. Along that stretch you will be up to your eyeballs in barge traffic so I doubt if you will spend much time under sail.
Then of course you will also have to match your mast height to the lowest bridge height and adjust your equipment accordingly or determine if it's all draw bridges en route.
You do have work to do But that's the basic routing

you can also go down the Tennessee -Tombiga Waterway...and come out in Mobile...the route is called the "Great Circle Route" and Landfall Navigation in Conn.....or any good marine store with a book section.......will have it in the Cruising Guides Section.....
