I know that the more free space a computer have, the better it performs but what is a good percentage to have without affecting performance of the computer. I have lot of movies and music on my hard drive and trying to determine how much free space to have . Thanks

You need to have atleast 15% under normal circumstances. If the files that are to be defragged are very small in size relative to the available free space, then you may be able to scrape by with less than 15%. Roughly, the free space required to defrag a file is *atleast* 2 times the size of the file itself, If I am not wrong.

Commercial defraggers do a better job of defragging with lower available free space than the default windows defragger.

it is usually a good idea to have at least 10% of each hard drive open at all times; it makes the computer run faster. It also means that you can defragment it, which will make it run even faster. You can reach defrag somewhere in control panel, or just do a search for "defrag" on your computer. If your computer is old and has a really small hard drive though, (like 20gb or less) it doesn't really make much of a difference.
