It all depends on the feel you're looking for. Private colleges are generally smaller so you get to know more people easily and have a closer campus community. Also professors seem to care more, and are much more accessible, and you usually have the professors teaching the class as opposed to TAs. Public universities generally have a view of students as a number, but can often offer better facilities, and access to cutting edge technology. Professors are generally a bit more difficult to pin down, and may refer you to a TA instead of answering your questions. Often they are more interested in obtaining grants, and publishing their work than actually educating students. It all boils down to whether or not you want a more close knit "family" atmosphere and pay a little more (private schools often offer more scholarship and grant money though). Or if you want to be more anonymous and know the people who live around you, and some of the people in your major, unless you join a lot of clubs/ play sports/ join a greek organization...then you might get to know a wider part of the campus community.
Actual education is the old adage "You get out what you put in" if you skip classes all the time you're not going to learn as much as if you study and are in class. If you don't enjoy yourself at the right times though, you'll feel like school sucks no matter where you go. Best of luck in your decision

There are great private universities and great public universities.
There are also a lot of crappy private universities and a lot of crappy public universities.
For example, the Ivy League schools, Duke, Chicago, Stanford, MIT and Cal Tech are all great private universities. Then there are great public universities like Berkeley, Michigan, Virginia, UNC and Georgia Tech.
You can find rankings for schools at the link below.

i'm only contained in the skill of determining whether to pass to a private or public college besides. besides the actuality that private colleges are extra high priced, it unquestionably has a tendency to be extra low-priced because of the fact they provide out plenty scholarships (between all my friends, it extremely is genuine for all and sundry). additionally, at private colleges they have a tendency to furnish each and each student extra interest (because it extremely is often smaller), and extra opportunities to get in contact. you may additionally think approximately which important you're examining, because of the fact the own could be ranked larger in that distinctive field. Employers might take this into attention, besides as whether you had journey and have been given in contact (case in point, in case you had to grow to be a chemist, did you get in contact in study classes?). you may in all likelihood have extra probability in private colleges. besides, sorry for the long answer, i'm hoping any of it helped
