I've heard some people suggest that the Yanks will fire Torre and grab LaRussa before he gets a chance to resign with St Louis.

LaRussa has gotten 11 teams into the playoffs but has only won 2 World Series. His A's teams lost two world series in which they were heavy favorites. Is this a better playoff track record than Joe Torre (4WS championships in 12 playoff appearances)

Kimba, I agree with you about Mattingly.

While I don't want to see Torre leave the Yankees, I would hope that they'd go after Joe Girardi instead of LaRussa. Get some fresh blood into the system!

Notice that all three names are italian? Does that count for anything in baseball's minority hiring? LOL Ciao!

Joe Torre has aways brought integrity to the table. I can't say the same for LaRussa. I will never be convinced, based on my own research that LaRussa was unaware of the "drug store atmosphere" that took place in his Oakland A's clubhouse. When a manager of a major league baseball team knowingly allows steroid use by his players in order to gain unfair advantage over their peers, a line must be drawn. Like his former players, LaRussa has no business in baseball.

Giambi was part of the group and I've always maintained that the Yankees make a major mistake in bringing him to the Bronx.

In terms of success, Torre has it all over LaRussa. There is nothing LaRussa can bring to the table that could prove for a minute that he would be worth the time and effort.

LaRussa can rot in St. Louis as far as I'm concerned.

I like your point about Tony LaRussa's track record. He was already a good manager with other teams, as opposed to Joe Torre being a mediocre manager who happened to luck out and become a benifactor of the unlimited resources the Yankees possess (before New York, Torre was a one time only division winner with Atlanta in 1982. He mostly stunk leading the Mets, Braves, and Cardinals). The fact that LaRussa has won with a team with a "modest" payroll is a testament to his ability. I think that Joe Girardi would make a great manager for the Yankees as opposed to LaRussa in terms of age. Girardi is young (43), has done wonders with a shoestring budget (imagine what he could do with a $215 million payroll as opposed to only a $15 million payroll with Florida), and as a former Yankees player, knows the atmosphere in New York. As far as Mattingly is concerned, I will have a question on him later on.

Absolutely NOT. LaRussa is an arseholio and would do no better than Torre, and would not even bring a fresh new approach to the Yankees as he is a stubborn old hag himself.
I hope the Yanks do the right thing and bring Torre back, but if they don't I'd like to see Donny Baseball take over (although he has no managerial experience).

at the beginning, i'm a purple Sox fan. I even have considered some video games the place judgements he's made i presumed had a unfavourable result on the interest, and that passed off approximately 4 circumstances. the guy's controlled what a million,a hundred-something wins and four WS and 13 positioned up Seasons with the Yankees. They (Steinbrenner & Sons or Cashman) are actually retarded to enable him bypass. Who the heck do they think of they're going to replace him with? Mattingly? Mattingly replaced right into a 1B, All-celebrity. good Managers (of the universal a Yankee supervisor might prefer to be) are the two Catchers or Pitchers, no longer First Basemen. I mean his first year there he controlled a notice sequence win... yet another element as quickly as we had that knuclkehead Dan Duquette he spent plenty time blaming individuals ... after a jointly as there replaced into no one left responsible. a similar element will take place to Cashman (who appears like a common manhattan city sleaze bag in any case). lower back, as a purple Sox fan, it extremely is super information. i wish Torre is going to Texas, he can artwork some magic with them. he's a stylish guy and he will have a good destiny. Yank followers get waiting for us to take many greater branch Pennants now which you have have been given merely enable the main experienced and argueably the suited supervisor in baseball walk out the door.

Steinbrenner is crazy but he is not stupid. If any of us were to catch him at just the right moment I believe Steinbrenner would confess that he would never be able to do better than Torre. However, that does not mean that he will reconsider his threat to fire Torre and if that occurs he most certainly would check on the availability of LaRussa. You can only be so good as a manager and I believe both Torre and LaRussa have reached that pinnacle.

Ok, he's ONLY won 2 World Series in 11 playoff appearances? Can people please stop referring to a championship like it's as easy as putting on pants. Yes, Torre has won 4 championships in comarison to his 4 but you have to look at those teams. PLAYERS win championships, managers put those players in position to do their job.

Do I think LaRussa would be a good fit? No, because he'd be coming back from the National League and I don't think he can handle the pressure cooker that is New York City. But if the Yanks weren't from New York and LaRussa was available? Absolutely.

I don't think Tony LaRussa would be a good fit in New York. He kind of has a temper and I don't think he would do well with the New York media and all the pressure from The Boss. I definitely don't think he will be coaching there.

LaRussa has a hard time with the media at times in St. Louis. I can only imagine what he will do when faced with the NY media. Disaster waiting to happen (I think I will laugh)

I don't.............I don't want either Mattingly or LaRussa........I don't think either one of them is a fit for the Yankees.........Torre is/was a great fit and has the backing of the Yankee players........No matter who the next manager of the Yankees will be following Torre won't be an easy task.......He'll be under the microscope for a long, long time.........CAT
