The Iraqis are NOT the enemy. Since there were no WMD, our purpose was to liberate the Iraqi people from a tyrannical ruler. However, when Saddam Hussein fell, we destroyed the infrastructure along with him and are now trying to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
Unfortunately, when the infrastructure was destroyed, it allowed the Al Queda terrorists entrance to Iraq and now we're fighting the terrorist in Iraq as well as in Afganistan. We can't leave Iraq because we've destroyed their government and cannot get one in place. If we were to withdraw from Iraq before helping our Iraqi friends to escape to safe havens outside of Iraq, they would be slaughtered within days. Iraqis are fleeing to neighboring Arab countries; the US is accepting only a very small number of refugees.

According to Al Greenspan, it's mostly about oil. I believe that it's also about making money the old fashioned corrupt conservative way, by winning no-bid contracts. The attack in the Middle East also initially helped Republicans in the polls (wag the dog) and created a smoke screen to hide incompetence and economic problems and pump up our economy by massive deficet spending. Of course, this is the first time in recorded history that a country went to war and cut taxes to the wealthy. (Sons and daughters of our military will need to pick up the slack.) Consequently we are facing a growing deficet.
In short, it's about making oil money, munitions money, no-bid military support contracts, and using this as an excuse to shred the constitution.
People are confused by the message created by our government and repeated like propaganda by out media of high standards(?). It is each person's responsibility to get to the truth.
Take the blue pill or the red pill. Maybe it's easier not to have to think about what the US is doing right now.

Actually, we're not fighting AGAINST Iraq. We are fighting against hostiles in the country of Iraq that feel a free and democratic Iraq is wrong !! I can't say I condone war or that I am in love with Bush ... but I have met and have spoken to numerous soldiers that have been to Iraq ... they portray a people that simply want to live in freedom, without the continuous threat of extremists that want everyone on the planet to live and act like they do. Is that a bad thing to want ?
The war may have started because of oil and our national interests ... but it's gone way beyond that now. We've started something and by God we need to finish it.

I'm in the Air Force and if you think it's JUST about oil, you are mistaken. Try going over there before you just regurgitate the news people. Partially, it is about oil. I mean, the first Marines and Army Rangers and our TACP and combat controller guys from the Air Force were guarding oil fields. But, you never hear about the good we're doing over there. If you look @ the basic principles, you might wanna look @ the age old war. Yes, we are an open religious democracy, but @ our core, we are a Christian society ("one nation under God") and they are of course, Muslim. There is no simple answer and saying it's just about oil is ignorant. I don't believe my friends were injured and killed in vein. Remember our troops that are still there instead of making an uneducated speculation about something you've never experienced
