don't list anything that isn't one of those. unless you feel you absolutely have to. to be more specific, currently I live in NYC, and really want to go to LA for college because i want to get away, but it still has to be a major city because I'm to used to city life. I want to major in film, and NYC & LA have the best film schools. (UCLA, USC, NYU, NYFI) I know california has hollywood and so thats where you the business is, but NY has the second biggest movie industry. and if i went to LA, i feel like i would have a lot more competition. what do you think is the best choice, all things considered?

I agree with you that getting away is a good idea. It isn't that there is anything wrong with New York, but L.A. is so different that it might spark ideas, and as a film major, you need as many of those as you can get! Yes, L.A. has its drawbacks, but so does New York. There are a number of good schools in L.A. - USC, UCLA, Chapman, Loyola Marymount all have decent film programs. And the competition is probably good for you, because it will certainly exist in the industry once you graduate.

I'd stay in NYC, just because I think it's a better city for a college student. LA is so big and spread out, but the public transportation isn't great so you pretty much HAVE to have a car to get around. In NYC you can get by without a car, and public transportation can get you almost anywhere in a timely manner.
