Are people really that ignorant?
I really think the answer is right there.
I think the one word I can freely use to sum up homophobes is plain old ignorance.

ok, I am not a homophobe, tho somtetimes I wonder about being one. I was raised by mom, who was bi, and my dad, was gay, ( after I was born, mind u! lol) and so... i was raised in a household that homosexuality was never mentioned, just that I was raised to be str8. go figure. Homophobes, were , in a sense, raised to be one way and that is all they know. It is also based on not ignorance, but choice. People can change their beliefs, but do they wanna?? I am not a homophobe, but I don't think i could ever be gay/ bi.It makes me uncomfortable to think that I may be gay/ bi,. Does that make me a homphobe? No. It makes me, me. Then their are the Bible-thumpers. In it, it says a few things about homosexuality, then on another hand, it goes on and on about brotherly love and how not to judge people. Then it alos says love the person, not the sin. Fear is another thing I chuckle at. What is there to be afraid of? Are gay people like the modern day boogie- man of our society? get real!

Honestly, I think its a mix of two things.
One reason could be they want to piss us off.
Or... it could be that they really don't know. Think about it. First off, homophobia has grown really huge. So huge it covers the whole earth. Why? Because Christianity has controlled half the population for two millenia. Christianity has told these people what to and what to not believe, thus developing homophobia in these people. Generation after generation, people have passed homophobia through families and friends. Homophobia is now a big entity in present-day.
NOW, LGBT's have risen against and told people that what they're being told is nothing but lies! Who are they supposed to believe? They have two forces telling them what is the "truth".
It's like having a well-raised 4-year old choose between living with one of two parents for the rest of his/her life. They don't know what to do.
People need to KNOW! Whether what these people are asking is simply a bullsh*t question or not, we need to give them an honest answer, or those who are asking simply to discover might get the wrong impression. Then what are we supposed to do? Fade out of existance? That's definitely not happening while I'M around. We need to get them to know the truth, or it will be our downfall.

What boggles my mind is that they even assume that the First Amendment is in anyway covered here.

I think it's a little of both...and then some! some like to just stir things up. others are just ignorant and close-minded and think they are actually "helping" somehow. some have a lack of education. almost all have never even tried to get to know any of us. they base everything on lies and stereotypes. what are some of the worst?
well, I've lost count how many times people have asked why we "choose" to be gay!
how many times they assume that we are all pedophiles. that we all have AIDS, and ONLY gays have AIDS.
that something "happened" (like rape or abuse) that made us "turn" gay.
that gay men hate women and lesbians hate men.
or...just the repeated asking of "am I gay?" "how do I know if I'm gay?" "is my b/f, g/f gay?" ...really, only they can answer that question...how would we know? if you're attracted to the same gender....duh! if attracted to both, then you're Bi. if only to the opposite gender...then you're straight. I mean, how much more cut and dried could it be?

OMG, LOLOLOL!!! thanks for the snort! My oldest is 3 a million/2 so it particularly is something new on a time-honored foundation. the major cutting-edge is by no skill humorous, purely very embarrassing. we were on the foodstuff market the day previous and as rapidly as we went to study out he stated, "mommy, that female is humorous looking", pertaining to the cashier. (She became "distinct" looking, i will easily bypass away it at that.) as well, i imagine of she in part heard what he stated yet not all. He became wearing his Favre Packer jersey and he or she or he became wearing a Dallas Cowboy blouse so I lined it up by using making use of telling her that he stated her blouse became humorous looking. "he's a vast Packer fan". She thoroughly presented it, thank GOODNESS! of route, we had a contact talk as rapidly as we've been given out to the motorcar.

you have to take into consideration that bigotry and prejudice is built on ignorance and fear. Of course, there are those zealot minds that fervently hold on to their fanaticism by citing a religious belief, and thus clinging to it with irrational pragmatism. There are only two absolute truth : LOVE and FEAR ...Where one takes root it overwhelmingly eclipses the other.

Well, some of them are just doing it to get attention, but then there are those poor souls who think that they are actually right and feel the need to 'convert us'.
