I am going to get a WD and I have a feeling that i will have to put the backround paper on 3 sides of the aquarium... true? Also, could an adult WD live in a 75 gallon aquarium? With lots of climbing stuff, water pits, and other assorted things? What should i use for substrate?

cool man wds are awesome um yeah i would put the background on 3 sides so they don't run into the glass, also an adult could but i think that may be a little small. they love climbing and you definetly want a water bowl big enough for it to submerge itself in, but it also will need a way out if it is smal so just put like a rock or something in the water. substrate is really up to you i personally like just using towels or astroturf because it is easier to clean up and you don't have to worry about them eating it, but reptile safe soil sold at most stores is fine. i would consider a bigger cage later on though i have two in this cage here

I would definatly go AGAINST getting an aquarium. They are extremely pricey, heavy and can be broken fairly easily, then you would have to replace the entire thing. Also, with a large aquarium there is no way you can reach down to the bottom, you would need something with a sliding side door.

I've told you this several times, water dragon enclosures should be custom built. They need lots of height and length, at least 6ft long x 4ft wide x 6ft high.

For a substrate, you could use a combination of soil (with no fertalizers) and orchid bark. This may pose a risk of being ingested and you could go with Astroturf (the fake grass stuff). Don't buy any commercial bark or shaving brands from pet stores, they've been known to cause problems.

The 75 gallon aquarium would be okay but it should be wider from front to back. a 90 gallon would be better, but you might be able to build a tank, a 4 foot long tank, 4 foot front to back, and 4 feet high is the ideal size for a wd. putting a non reflective background is key for these guys as they have a tendency of bumping their snouts on the glass that causes an infection. substrate can go from something boring like newsprint, paper towels, or a repta mat, all the way to a relaistic setting with non chemicalized potting soil or coconut fiber. wnyherp.org has all the begining hints to owning these guys and id start off there, get everything you need first, and then get the wd. good luck!

For a baby the best substrate is newspaper they can't eat it and get impaction. Also for the Aquarium i wouldn't use 75 gallon for mine the bigger the better. I have my Chinese Water Dragon in a 300 gallon custom built cage. making it could be as easy as getting a old book self two feet wide and and putting plexi on a rail to make it slide open. to buy stuff for the tank look at www.LLLreptile.com
