If they did that would be bad for the US because there is only enough room in the world for one aggressive superpower.

Yes, that is certainly the case.

However, China does not have a history of flexing its military muscles. The last time they did that was in the late 70's against Vietnam who was causing them a lot of trouble on their border. After repeated warnings from Beijing, China invaded, spanked them, and a month to the day left telling them that they would be back if they did it again, but next time it would be worse. Seems to have worked.

China reduced its military a year ago by 1 million

China is going through much needed modernization of their military, not expanding it.

China has made a pledge to the world and their people they will not invade a sovereign nation. The USA has made no such pledge.

China also has stated they believe in a countries right to self determination. They also believe in diplomacy over accusations, finger pointing, conflict, hate and war.

A final fact to consider, according to a 2005 congressional study, the USA sells 36% of the worlds arms, some independent studies put that at up to 60%. Whereas, the same congressional study stated that China sells 3%

When it comes to finger pointing, accusations, gun running, conflict and war, follow the money first.

China has a lack of transparency? Were did you get that? Did you know their 1 and 5 year plans are visible to everyone, including you? We have no such plans, except Cheney's energy plan and that was held in secret.

Look up their white papers on their military, government, economy and social structure. Then get back and tell me where that exists in such a simple form in the USA. One has to dig, dig, dig to find answers and in many cases its so damned confusing we have no idea what is truth, what is twisting facts to fit an agenda, and what is outright lies

I can tell you are about 15 years old because only children think that there will be some great war between China and the US. If you want to know the truth, it would be near disastrous for any country, including China, to attack the United States. Even though they have more numbers, we have better technology and it would be incredibly costly for them to even try. On top of that, there is no real reason for them to do so. Why attack a country that you are not at war with, only to spend billions upon billions in doing so? For what gains? Even if they took the USA, they would have to hold it, and that would take tens of millions of troops to do so. You also have to remember that China has hundreds of billions, and perhaps trillions, of dollars invested in America. They have bought our bonds and own many of our companies and assets, and by attacking us, they would essentially be wiping that slate clean. China isn't looking to become a great world military power. They are looking to develop as a nation in terms of economics. Again, it is only the children who watch too many movies that fantasize about China attacking the USA. Should America ever fall, it will be through politics and economics and not over conflicts at arms.

Yeah, and it is the U.S. We worry that China does not respect human rights. We worry that there economy is growing at an enormous but possibly uncontrolled rate. They continue to tie there currency to the dollar. We worry that they continue to practice communism and they prohibit free speech. Finally, their military might is a major threat simply because they have expressed a will to annex Taiwan - an independent state and they show no desire to have a somewhat transparent government. Nobody knows for sure what goes on with China's military or how much money is really spent on it. China is a threat to the world but probably not any worse than Russia - or should I say the Soviet Union?

Americans don't hate China just paranoid of any country that may be a threat to them or disagree with their policies.

If the current "borrow and spend" policies of the neoconservatives to fund Middle Eastern conflicts keep up their current pace, the Chinese gov't just might one day own the US military.

I, personally, have no beef with China.

Why do you assume Americans or anyone else hates China? Many people do not trust China because of the double-digit increases in its military budget for the past 18 years and its lack of transparency; not to mention its threats against Taiwan and other countries, its suppression of any dissent within China, the incident at Tiananmen Square in 1989, the crushing of protests in Tibet in 1988, and its support of dictatorships like Myanmar, Sudan, North Korea and Zimbabwe. Also because of the censorship in China. A one-party dictatorship is always problematical, especially one which envisions becoming a superpower and dominating Asia. Incidentally, China is a long way from being a "superpower" no matter what the CPC may tell you, it just likes to pretend it is. It is really more like a paper tiger. But China has enormous domestic problems which may be insolvable, and that may cause it to become more aggressive.

I don't know too many people in America that have ever said they hate China. Seems to me there are a great deal of Americans that really like China and have invested a great deal of money over there. As to their military power, whatever China has in mind is something they will have to determine...just don't under estimate to whom they are dealing with.

China can be the aggressor all it wants....low unto thee.

Oh...you must be in another country other than China...to be speaking so freely, because we all know you would NEVER be allowed to speak freely FROM China. Ciao

Actually, if China were to use its military like the United States, perhaps organizations like alQaeda wouldn't be indiscriminately slaughtering thousands of innocent people with impunity - they would confront this fanatical ideology of hatred, blood lust and domination like the United States and her true allies have.
That would not be "bad for the US" or any civilized society.

Americans who hate China probably hate themselves. That's the nature of hate. It is without rhyme or reason.
