ok..... you say you are computer inept? from the tone of your message, i am assuming you downloaded a program or something and it installed on your computer? and that is why you want it gone?
the answers before mine are all correct if you only downloaded a document or a picture or a "file".
if you downloaded and installed a program, lets hope its a safe one and get rid of it.....
1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Delete Programs....
2. Scroll down the list (it is alphabetical....) to the program you installed. Click that progam once.
3. Click "Remove" and let windows make it go away for you.
NOW..... if it is a BAD program......
and what the heck.... you probably need to do this anyway.... open your "antivirus / anti-spyware" program (Norton, McAffe, etc.....). Click on run scan and be sure to select "full scan"...... dont do the "Quick Scan". i know its quicker, but it doesnt dig down deep to get the really bad bugs out.......
hope this helped

it should depend on what you have downloaded and what you have done to it.
if it is a normal file like a document, a song or a movie, just locate the folder where it is saved and delete the file
if it is a program and you have installed it in your computer, use the add/remove programs from the control panel, uninstall the program then delete the downloaded executable file (this is the first file you've downloaded to install the program).
then run a disk cleanup to remove all temporary internet files. (start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools -> disk cleanup)

First, find where you downloaded it to. Search for it using windows search if you need to.
Next click on it, and press the delete button. Press Yes when it asks you if you are sure.
