I am babysitting and the baby is hungry. I have fed her 6 ounces and she keeps wanting more. I am scared of overfeeding her and the mother did not tell me how many ounces she is up to. How much should a 2 month old eat??

Yes I burped her after every 2 ounces and I gave her a pacifier after 4 and 6 to give her time to see if she is still hungry, which she is. I have not put her down so it isn't that she just wants held.

Now I have given her one more ounce and she is sleeping on my chest.

Well, normally a 2 month old should only eat about 6-8 ozs a feeding...but if she is still hungry, then feed her more...don't worry about overfeeding, she will stop when she is full, or spit up the extra...good luck to you...or call the mom and ask her (if you can).

My baby is barely doing 3-4 oz every 1.5-2 hours and she is already 3 months old. All babies are different though, some can handle a bit more. If she can take in more at one time, then there should be a longer gap between feedings. How long is she going between feedings? She may also have a tummy ache or gas and is looking for a way to comfort herself. I would call the mom just to make sure. Better safe than sorry.

Never. A baby should be given cereal NO EARLIER than 4 months of age. Also... never put his/her cereal in a bottle. That forces her to eat it evenif she may not want it. Forcing it stretches her stomach and causes weight gain. When your baby reaches 4 months old, and you've been given the okay from the pediatrician, mix 1 tbsp with some formula in a bowl and spoon feed it to her. This will teach her how to eat off of a spoon. Never give cereal to her in a bottle.

Are you sure she is still hungry?? check her diaper? but hey if it is food give her 4 more oz then ask the mom or dad when they come home. Also she just might be tired try holding her close to your heart and rocking while lightly patting her back or bottem they like that. one more thing did you burp her?

i wouldn't give her more than two more ounces. also, some babies have a need to suck after feeding. it doesn't mean they are hungry. try giving her/him a pacifier. if all else fails, call mom. she would most likely be happy to hear from you!

it doesn't sound like you are the one with the problem. you have done everything you are supposed to do. i don't understand though, why would the baby's mother not tell you how many ounces she is drinking? any mother knows that's some pretty important information. good luck, poor thing.

She may just be being fussy, or wants to be held. Does she ever get a pacifier? Babies also just liek to suck sometimes. Try that or walking around with her.

I agree with the other post that if that baby continues to eat then give her as much as she needs. When she has had enough she will stop.
