They grow great in San Diego which is the avacado capital of...the US...or something. They are very sensitive to cold weather, though. Any prolong temp of freezing, 32 degrees, will kill the tree branches, or even the whole tree. I don't think that they would grow very well anywhere north of los angeles.

There's a highway outside of San Diego called the Avacado Highway, so assume in Sothern California the climate is good!

So. Ca. is the primary source of Haas avacados. If citrus grows where you are avacado will too. Grew up in San Diego county. Hate to mow lawns where there are avacado trees though.

Here on the California's Central Coast, avocado orchards are plentiful and it is an important agricultural crop. They cannot take a hard freeze, however.

It most certainly does. I've tasted some scrumptous avacados while painting a house in the central valley, where I live.

Yes, I know they fruit in So. Cal. but I don't know if it is warm enough up here.
We had a big one in our backyard growing up but it blew over in a storm before we could see if it would produce any avocados! (We're in Sonoma County.)
