I just got my PSP slim about three weeks ago. Today I was trying to turn it on and the screen went black, but the power was on. Then it turned itself off automatically. (The battery was full.) Then I made a second attempt to turn it on and it started up fine. Would anyone know why its doing this? One more thing. I did turn it on and off a few times after this problem occurred (just to see what would happen) and sometimes it started up right away. And sometimes, I had that black screen, it turned itself off automatically, then I turned it on again, and it worked. Thanks for your help!

sounds like your putting it in and out of sleep mode... if you push up the power button and hold it for a few seconds, that turns it on and off... if you just quickly push the power button up or down, it puts the PSP into and takes it out of sleep mode... the screen goes black in sleep mode to save energy while it's still actually on... that way you can start it up quickly without the operating system having to load from being off...

If you've got a UMD disc in it (and you were in the middle of something), I'm guessing you were probably doing something and didn't save, you turned it off while the game was running or the PSP turned itself off from sleep or from low battery.

It usually can't load right after that, so it shuts itself off and restarts.

My PSP does the same thing every few times, and I've noticed its whenever there's a loading error.

god you extremely want a psp huh? nicely i might advise you to: a million) beg your mum and dad 2) get good grades ( my mum and dad offered me psp reason I have been given no 60% in document card hehe I normally fail ) 3) do newspaper transport and sustain money to purchase psp yet do no longer thieve or convey a hundred money expenses because of the fact it would be particularly unusual for ll year old boy wearing all that money. good luck oh one greater element , psp is extremely cool to have even though it dones't nicely worth you to get in to detention center .

i had a psp myself, what you are doing is putting it into hybernate mode. It is very similar to the computer, when you dont turn it off, but it seems that everthing has shut down, while your programs are still running. the psp can do this as well, you still have the system on, but it appears as though it is off. in order to shut it off completely when you slide up the power button, hold it for a few seconds. if you only do it quickly it will go into hybernation mode.

Sounds like a factory issues - take to the service (unless you installed OEM or M33 OS). Or may be it's just a sleep mode thing. To turn it off completely - HOLD power off switch. To put it into sleep mode - just touch it.

Take it to your local "PSP" dealer.
They will know how to fix it properly.
