Use algebra! Let the half life time of iodine-131 to be X days.
So there are 2/X of half lifes in 2 days.
According to what given:
20/16.85 = 2^(2/X)
Ln(20/16.85) = (2/X)*Ln2
X = 2*Ln2 / Ln(20/16.85) = 8.09
the half life of iodine-131 therefore is 8.09 days.
